‘Ōlelo Mua (Introduction): For a Native Daughter

Noelani Goodyear-Ka‘ōpua
ku‘ualoha ho‘omanawanui is a Kanaka Maoli writer, artist, and kia‘i aloha ‘āina from Wailua Homesteads, Puna, Kaua‘i. She is a professor of Hawaiian literature at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, where she specializes in Hawaiian and Pacific literatures. She is the chief editor of ‘Oiwi: A Native Hawaiian Journal and director of Ka Ipu o Lono, a Native Hawaiian digital humanities resource of Hawaiian literature. Raised on the waters of O‘ahu, Noelani Goodyear-Ka‘ōpua is a Kanaka Maoli and a professor of political science who teaches Hawaiian and Indigenous politics at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Noelani has authored and edited books on Native Hawaiian education and social movements, including The Seeds We Planted: Portraits of a Native Hawaiian Charter School, A Nation Rising: Hawaiian Movements for Life, Land, and Sovereignty and Nā Wāhine Koa: Hawaiian Women for Sovereignty and Demilitarization. Noelani is currently coauthoring with Kahunawai Wright a biography of Dr. Trask.
