To the Editor.—I read with interest the excellent and informative review article by Kamel-Reid et al1 on the “Validation of KRAS Testing for Anti-EGFR Therapeutic Decisions for Patients With Metastatic Colorectal Carcinoma.” The review article is certainly an excellent guide for practicing pathologists in this molecular era. However, I observed an error in the equations given for analytic sensitivity (p 30) and analytic specificity (p 31) in the article.
The correct equation for analytic sensitivity is [True-positives/(True-positives + False-negatives)] × 100% NOT [True-positives/(True-positives + False-positives)] × 100%, as indicated in the article.
Similarly, the correct equation for analytic specificity is [True-negatives/(True-negatives + False-positives)] × 100% NOT [True-negatives/(True-positives + False-positives)] × 100%, as stated in the article.
Editor's Note: An erratum listing the correct formulas for determining analytic sensitivity and analytic specificity has been published.
