Life membership is a special category to which a AAAP member, upon entering retirement, may be elected. The recipient must have been active in the field of poultry health for a minimum of 25 years and must have made significant contributions to the field of poultry health. Recipients also must have made significant contributions to the American Association of Avian Pathologists, such as serving on the AAAP Board of Directors, and/or serving on Committees essential to the operation of the AAAP. The recipient of the AAAP Life Membership Award for 2008 was Dr. Yan Ghazikhanian.

Dr. Ghazikhanian graduated with his DVM from the University of Tehran, Iran, in 1963. He was awarded the Educational Silver Medallion medal by the Shah of Iran for being the top ranked veterinary graduate. He obtained his M.S. in 1969 and Ph.D. in 1972, both from the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine....
