The Eighth International Symposium on Avian Influenza continued the tradition of being the preeminent scientific meeting on avian influenza for both poultry and wild birds. The location at the Royal Holloway, University of London, provided an excellent contrast of a small collegial gathering in a location easily accessible to the vibrant city of London. We thank Ian Brown and his staff for organizing a great conference that included participants from around the world who presented and shared information for the goal of controlling and eradicating avian influenza from our poultry populations and understanding the biology of the virus more completely.
