Avian Diseases has a long and rich history. Originally founded in 1957 with Dr. P. P. Levine as its first editor, Avian Diseases quickly became a leading international peer-reviewed journal of research and case reports related to diseases of various avian species. Dr. Levine stated in the front matter of the first issue in 1957 that “We hope to publish a journal of high quality with its usefulness and scope not limited by any geographic or political boundaries.” I believe that over the subsequent 67 years we have succeeded in this endeavor. However, scientific publishing is changing rapidly, and to survive in this new environment, we must continue to adapt to the shifting landscape.
