I am pleased to announce the publication of my first Special Issue as Editor-in-Chief of Avian Diseases. This Special Issue has the unofficial title “Current Infectious Bacterial Diseases of Poultry.” The material included in this issue will hopefully be of interest to our AAAP membership as well as to poultry veterinarians, scientists and specialists around the world. The entire Special Issue is being published Open Access. Although Avian Diseases is not yet fully Open Access, we ensured that this entire Special Issue would be freely available and thereby enhance the visibility of our esteemed journal.

The 19 articles in this Special Issue are divided into 6 important bacterial disease sections. Within each of these sections, there are Invited Reviews, Original Articles and Case Reports. The 6 sections included in this Special Issue are: 1) Avibacterium paragallinarum, 2) Enterococcus spp., 3) Streptococcus gallolyticus, 4) Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale, 5) Campylobacter hepaticus, and 6) Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae. Although a print copy of Avian Diseases is no longer sent to AAAP members and journal subscribers, please remember that a bound, printed copy of each issue can be ordered using the Print on Demand feature on the Avian Diseases website. This would be a particularly appealing option for this Special Issue.

Finally, the topic for the 2025 Special Issue is Avian Metapneumovirus in Poultry. Please consider submitting Original Articles and Case Reports for publication in this Special Issue. As with the 2024 Special Issue, all articles will be published Open Access.
