Closed Catheter System Decreases Chance of Infection
ICU Medical has released the Tego Connector, the first catheter protection device designed specifically for use in hemodialysis treatments. The Tego protects the catheter from contamination during hemodialysis sessions, preventing bloodstream infections for the patient.
It is a needle-free product that creates a “closed” system when attached to the hub of the catheter. The closed system eliminates any manipulation of the catheter hub while attaching or removing blood lines, which helps prevent contamination and, consequently, bloodstream infections for patients. Traditional hemodialysis delivery systems are open, and 10% of patients with a long-term central venous catheter for chronic hemodialysis will develop a bloodstream infection when using this open system.
High-Def Endoscopy Image Management System Launched
Smith & Nephew's Endoscopy division has launched the high-definition 660HD Image Management System, which can digitally capture, edit, export, and print endoscopic surgical images and patient information.
Once medical practitioners select images to be captured, the OR staff can export the images to DVD, CD, or USB, and integrate them into the hospital's information technology architecture, where they can be stored with the patient's electronic medical record. The system can be configured to interface with a broad range of hospital information systems.
