Recently I was interviewed to discuss my journey to becoming a valuation expert.1 One of my goals for this discussion was to explain the evolution of my career to be an example to others who may be looking for a change in their current professional position. I also discussed the benefits of being a business valuer. In my opinion, working in the valuation industry provides professional challenges, the opportunity for continued knowledge and the ability to make a difference, as well as belonging to a community of like-minded individuals.

Every valuation assignment has its own unique challenges. Companies vary in size, capital structure, market share, industry, etc. The majority of the United States' GDP is generated by privately-held companies, as private companies account for almost 90% of US businesses.
