EMINENT Mexican ichthyologist EDMUNDO DíAZ-PARDO passed away 6 November 2013 in the City of La Piedad, State of Michoacán, Mexico, at the age of 68. “Mundo,” as he was known to his students, friends, and colleagues, was a dedicated educator, academic, and mentor who enthusiastically shared his experience and knowledge of Mexican ichthyology with numerous generations of students at various institutions in Mexico, Europe, and North and Central America.

Edmundo was born in Mexico City on 20 November 1945 to Gregorio Díaz Palacios and Clemencia Pardo Alegre. He majored in Biology in 1969 at the Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biológicas of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (ENCB-IPN) in Mexico City.
