THE American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, like virtually all professional scientific societies, operates largely by the volunteer service of its members. In this regard, the Robert K. Johnson Award for Excellence in Service to the ASIH is awarded to members in recognition of exceptional service to the Society. It was named in memory of former ASIH Secretary and Copeia Editor Robert Karl Johnson, whose long service and lasting contributions to the Society included production of the first guide to ASIH Policies and Procedures. The Johnson Award is presented annually to either an ichthyologist or a herpetologist, in alternate years, with the award this year designated to herpetology. The Johnson Award Committee for 2021 was comprised of Kyle R. Piller, Melissa A. Pilgrim, and Michael E. Douglas (as Chair).
