My students and I use genetics to understand the formation and persistence of species in squamates and desert plants.

I identify as an evolutionary biologist.

I identify as a woman of color and as a child of immigrants. Growing up, I was always the only person who looked like me in a room. I often felt like an outsider, but it also allowed me to practice empathy with people who seemed different from me. I hope that I bring that same generous attitude to my colleagues and my science.
