It is not a revised edition of his first book, but rather one with new emphases; however, it still has a strong Australian flavor with 11 of its 19 chapters by authors with significant Australian experience. There are a total of 30 contributors, with 2580 citations, 60% of which are from 1990 or later. Sale stated that his intention was to produce a book “that would speak to graduate students, to scientists in the field, to reef managers and others interested in coral reefs, and to the wider ecological and scientific community” (p. xiii).
