Reports of data received in reply to questionnaires circulated by the task group are reported. Data indicate high silicon cast iron anodes can be expected to perform satisfactorily both with and without coke breeze ground beds and that economics of installation without ground beds frequently is good. Difficulties were reported from chlorine gas blocking when anodes were installed in environments with high chloride content, including drastic reduction in service life.

Successful installations in fresh, brackish and salt water are reported. Temperatures up to 200 F appear not to be significant in fresh water and variations in pH from 3 to 10 have no marked influence on wastage rate. In high chlorine fresh waters heavy wastage is reported at temperatures in the range 150-160 F. In sea water or brackish waters with high chloride content heavy attack occurs at temperatures over 150 F. 5.2.3
