Abstract
Questionnaire replies received from 32 electric utility companies are tabulated and evaluated regarding practices and experiences with protective jackets for outside plant lead and aluminum sheathed cable. Extensive information is given on the following subjects: reasons for use of jacketed lead sheath cable in ducts, types and thicknesses of jackets used, value of jacket on lead sheath in reducing mechanical damage due to cable movement, type of coverings used on cables in manholes, installation and removal of duct lay jacketed cables, lubricants for lead sheath cables in ducts, use of buried jacketed cables, thicknesses of jackets, covering of buried cable joints. Data are reported on use of jacketed lead sheathed cables—ductlay and buried. Reports from three utility companies are summarized regarding the use of jacketed aluminum sheathed cable. 7.7
