This paper reviews the basic metallurgy of the iron-aluminum system and the status of alloy development programs. Published data are summarized dealing with the strength of iron-aluminum alloys at elevated temperature, oxidation resistance, and resistance to oil-ash corrosion. New data are presented on a series of iron-aluminum and iron-aluminum-chromium alloys exposed to various concentrations of hydrogen sulfide at several different temperatures.
