Abstract
The influence of the carbon content of Zircaloy-2 upon tensile properties at room and elevated temperatures and upon aqueous corrosion performance has been studied„ The results show that tensile and yield strengths at room temperature increase with carbon content, but at elevated temperature strength properties are not influenced by carbon concentration. It has also been observed that the corrosion resistance decreases with carbon content; however, carbon additions overcome the deleterious effects upon corrosion resistance brought about by slowly cooling Zircaloy-2 through the two-phase, alpha-plus-beta region.
