Anodic protection was applied to certain special alloys following an investigation into their anodic polarization characteristics in 0.1 percent HNO3 + 5 percent HCOOH + 20 percent NH4F solution saturated with SO2. The effectiveness of this method of corrosion prevention was confirmed by the large reduction in corrosion rate. In addition, intercrystalline corrosion, knifeline attack and weld corrosion were appreciably reduced on application of this technique.
