The general problems confronting corrosion and oxidation research in the 1970's are outlined, and suggestions are made for dealing with some of them. Subjects discussed include ways of disseminating existing information, methods of organizing and performing research so that the broadly based, interdisciplinary approach may be maintained, and likely changes in corrosion education. More detailed suggestions are then made for research on the high temperature oxidation and corrosion of materials and on selected aspects of corrosion and protection at ambient temperatures.
