Cu2 At. % Ge and Cu8 At. % Ge alloys are susceptible to intergranular and transgranular stress corrosion cracking (SCC), respectively in 15N (NH3)aq preconcentrated with cupric complex ions. Cu2 At. % Ge cracks readily in electrolytes having high complex ion concentrations, which result in strongly adherent black tarnish films. Such films do not form on Cu8 At. % Ge. To a large extent, Cu-Ge behaves analogously to Cu-Zn, although a few significant points of difference exist.
