Abstract
Localized dissolution, which was observed on polished surfaces of Ti-6Al-4V during exposure to 5N HCl at cathodic potentials, is explained on the basis of the uneven growth of a surface hydride layer. The possible relation of this behavior to the initiation of stress corrosion cracks is also discussed.
