Abstract
The designs and performances of reference electrodes for high temperature aqueous electrochemical studies are reviewed. Particular attention is paid to the thermodynamic viabilities of various internal reference electrodes and criteria for assessing the performance of these systems are discussed. The design of external reference electrodes is briefly described. Methods for estimating the thermal/pressure junction potentials for these systems are analyzed.
