Numerous metallurgical, environmental, and geometric factors affect crevice corrosion. Mathematical modeling is used to describe the effects of chloride content of the bulk environment and crevice geometry factors on the predicted time to breakdown of passivity for aisi 304 and 316 stainless steels. Results of multiple crevice assembly testing in full strength and diluted seawater environments at 35 C are also discussed.
