Measurements of anodic and cathodic polarization and of potential time curves in 30 to 96 wt% sulfuric acid solutions at temperatures ranging from 25 to 150 C were made. The electrochemical behavior of Hastelloy C-276 was found to be controlled by two different processes; one process was operative in the 30 to 70% concentration range, and the other process was at concentrations higher than 70%. After corrosion occurred on Hastelloy-276 in sulfuric acid solutions, the alloy surface was depleted of W.
