Abstract
The corrosion behavior of carbon steel, austenitic stainless steels, Ni-base alloys, and nickel in hot, concentrated caustic soda solutions at the active potential range was investigated. The corrosion rate obtained in the boiling solution was larger than that in the hydrogen-saturated solution of the same concentration and temperature in all cases. Also, the corrosion rate was decreased by increasing the Ni content in the alloy. The alloy elements other than Ni, i.e., Fe, Cr, Mo, and Cu, were attacked preferentially during experimentation.
