Abstract
Weld zones in fabricated structures may exhibit preferential corrosion, especially under crevice-corrosion conditions. However, it is difficult to produce crevice conditions in the laboratory because of the nonflat surfaces associated with weld reinforcements. A new methodology has been developed for testing welds with this common geometry. Its application has proven successful in evaluating the effects of weld material, surface condition, and temperature on the crevice-corrosion characteristics of weld zones with reinforcements.
