Inclusion-induced pitting is a highly random and intricate process. This study aims to investigate the impact of Surface Mechanical Rolling Treatment (SMRT) on the pitting behavior of 2205 duplex stainless steel from the perspective of inclusion control. To overcome the randomness, we statistically analyze the composition, location, and size of 100 inclusions by scanning electron microscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy. The relationship between these inclusions and pitting initiation is also discussed from a statistical perspective. It is found that SMRT effectively modifies inclusions and reduces the number and size of pits.
