Jason S. Lee

Dr. Jason S. Lee is a Materials Engineer at the Naval Research Laboratory. He earned the B.S. degree from University of Michigan, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degree from University of Virginia. His research interests include the improved fundamental understanding of the localized corrosion and electrochemistry of metals and alloys exposed to marine environments. Specifically, the diagnosis, mitigation, and monitoring of microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) in military, municipal water distribution, and oil and gas systems.

Additionally, Dr. Lee examines biofouling and the mechanisms for its prevention involving materials exposed in atmosphere and natural waters. Computational modeling of localized corrosion and protection mechanisms is also used extensively in his research. Dr. Lee has been awarded the NRL Alan Berman Research Publications Award three times (2005, 2008, and 2011), and has also been awarded the Top 20 NRL Accomplishment Award (2009). He also serves as an Assistant Editor of Biofouling. Currently, Dr. Lee serves as the Vice Chair of NACE’s TEG 187X (Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion) and TEG 286X (Oil & Gas End-User Experience with Molecular Microbiological Methods (MMM) and Problem Solving), and is a member of NACE’s Research Committee.

Research Interests: microbiologically influenced corrosion, computational modeling
