All materials accepted for publication in Herpetologica and Herpetological Monographs become the property of the Herpetologists' League, which holds exclusive copyright to all journal content. No part of this publication may be reproduced, stored, transmitted, or distributed in any form or by any means electronic or mechanical without the written permission of the Publisher. This includes but is not limited to photocopying, recording, and the use of document storage and information retrieval systems.

Authors have permission to archive or deposit the post-print version of the article (i.e. final draft post-refereeing), but not the final published article or publisher's PDF. Full versions of Herpetologica and Herpetological Monographs articles, including open access articles, may not be reposted on any website, including institutional repositories or authors’ personal websites. Only article abstracts with a link to the final version or PDF at hljournals.org is permitted.
