Social anthropologists have long recognized that a relativistic view of time reckoning is essential to the understanding and description of non-Western cultures. In a recent article, I proposed a descriptive model of social structure in which "social time" appears as one of the major dimensions. In this paper, I shall elaborate the concept of social time and demonstrate its relevance to the description of one type of institutional conflict.
