Anthropological field research involves unique circumstances in which professional social scientists work with local communities. The relationships between researchers and communities are negotiated on a continuing basis, whether for short-term or long-term projects. The articles appearing in this special section of Human Organization focus on how changing relationships between scholars and communities demand that we sharpen our awareness of ethical precepts — and honor them — in the context of applied anthropology.
