Response to Jacobs

I appreciate Richard Jacobs' interest in the accuracy of the characterization of the level of choice in California in my recent article in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Although I do not have first-hand knowledge of the level of choice in California, I have confidence in the source that provided me with the information used in the study. Specifically, for each state, including California, my information about the level of choice was derived from telephone interviews with the director of the relevant department or the individual to whom I was referred by the director as being most knowledgeable about this issue for transitioning youth. In California, the director of the Department of Developmental Services referred me to the individual I interviewed. The interview was conducted on May 7, 2002.
