Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common functional gastrointestinal conditions, and conventional medical treatments do not always provide satisfactory relief. There is increasing evidence emerging for the use of psychological approaches in the management of IBS. This review summarizes the evidence for using Yoga in the management of IBS, as well as some possible mechanisms by which Yoga is beneficial for individuals with IBS. Basic Yoga practice recommendations are provided, offering a simple approach that can be easily adopted by individuals with IBS, or by Yoga teachers and healthcare professionals who work with them.
