All of us here at the Journal hope you have had a wonderful summer. As fall is right around the corner, it’s time for the kids to go back to school, college football season begins and lots of exciting news from CPhA.
The CPhA House of Delegates met on the weekend of the 9th and 10th of September. Several new and updated policies, too many to print here, are in the books. I encourage you to check the CPhA website when these are updated to check out the latest details. Congratulations to our outgoing Speaker of the House of Delegates, Dr. Jennifer Courtney, for putting together a fantastic 2023 House of Delegates. Congratulations to our new Speaker of the House of Delegates, Dr. Mark Dewoskin. Finally, congratulations to our newly elected Speaker-elect, Dr. Noelle Lee.
CPhA has released the results of the 2023 election. Congratulations to the CPhA President-elect, Dr. Kevin Komoto and our two new Trustee-elects Drs. Eva Ung and IR Patel. They will be installed at the CPhA Western Pharmacy Exchange in Las Vegas in April 2024. We look forward to seeing you all there for the installation and festivities.
At the June 2023 CPhA Board of Trustee meeting, the board decided to change the focus and direction of this Journal to better serve the membership. First, effective January 2024 the new Journal Editor-in-Chief will be, L. Michael Posey, RPh, MA.
Michael has written or edited publications touching all parts of the profession. As editor of Pharmacy Today and the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association, he led the periodicals published by the American Pharmacists Association during the period of change from print to online publication. He is also a founding and current editor of DiPiro’s Pharmacotherapy, now in its 12th edition. Michael was the founding editor of The Consultant Pharmacist, managed the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy during its start-up phase and was an editor of the American Journal of Hospital Pharmacy when it began publication of Clinical Pharmacy.
In addition to his editorial work, Michael headed an association-management firm that provided services to the Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity and state groups of hospital/health-system pharmacists in Illinois, Virginia, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi. He holds a master’s degree in health and medical journalism and baccalaureate degrees in pharmacy and microbiology, all from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs). He resides in Santa Rosa with his partner, UCSF alumna Jennifer Chang, and their two children, Dutcher and Rubye.
Second, the name of the publication will change to California Pharmacist. The journal direction will be more local and state-centric, informing the membership of local and state political and practice initiatives as well providing a peer-reviewed opportunity for our authors looking to get their work out to the profession.
We thank all our authors for their submissions and support for this edition of the Journal. These are outstanding articles that the membership and profession will find innovative and practice pertinent. We invite and encourage you to submit your work for the 4th Quarter 2023 edition now!
On behalf of the Editorial Review Board of the JCPhP, thank you for your continued support of this Journal and CPhA.
Sincerely,
