The results show that: (1) Farmers in Three Gorges Reservoir Area have the highest overall scores for physical capital, financial capital is second, social capital is at the middle-low level, and human capital and natural capital are at low levels. (2) The total capital value of different types of farmers shows the same law, that is, professional agriculture types>non-agricultural types>non-agricultural -based and agricultural supplement types>agriculture-based and non-agricultural supplement types>traditional agricultural types. (3) The higher the natural capital of farmers, the more their livelihood strategies tend to choose non-agricultural livelihood strategies such as traditional agriculture, professional agriculture, and agricultural-based part-time employment. The increase of the remaining four major capitals, which will obviously promote the transition of farmers to non-agricultural and more professional agricultural livelihood strategies.
