Taihu Basin is one of the most economically developed and the most densely populated regions in China, with high large and medium-sized cities. With the progress of urbanization, shortage of water resources in this region has been more and more significant. Considering the restriction of water shortage and the heavy load on the environment, industrial structure adjustment and economic transformation and upgrading are imperative. In this study, current conditions of water resources consumption in Taihu Basin were investigated and valuable advice and suggestions were put forward, which may be helpful for the sustainability of water resources in this region.
