Born in Antwerp, Belgium, on 10 November 1921, Roger died at the age of 96 on 16 September 2018 in Brussels, Belgium. He was a friend, supporter, and contributor to the Journal of Coastal Research for many years. Roger was an accomplished academician of renown and much admired by all who knew him. The accomplishments of this unusual man are too numerous to mention here, but suffice it to say that we recognize decades of international accolades, many scientific honors, hundreds of scientific publications, numerous military medals, multiple academic degrees, seven continents visited and seven languages fluently spoken, and appointments at several universities.
