The format of this historical review is interesting because it is presented as a bilingual dialogue where the figures and illustrations are appropriately placed within Romanian and English text blocks. This bilingual formatting arrangement makes for easy reading and access in what might otherwise be a tedious exercise. For English-speaking oceanographers and coastal marine researchers this format is most welcome and a pleasure to peruse without difficulty. The other advantage of English text is that it brings this information to a much wider audience than those who only speak Romanian. Although the Romanian research community is proficient in English, this dual presentation makes this work more widely available to researchers worldwide.
