The ocean contains a huge amount of ocean thermal energy (OTE). The cooling and heating source heat-pump air conditioning system based on OTE collects thermal energy from seawater; then with the aid of the compressor system and a small amount of electricity consumption, it can heat or cool the buildings within the region. By conducting exergy analysis on the system and comparing it with the energy consumption of the air source heat-pump system, it shows that in case of equal heating and cooling supply, the heat-pump energy consumption and system energy consumption of the regional cooling and heating source air conditioning system based on OTE are significantly lower than those of the air source heat-pump system, and it can save about 25% of the energy.
