Urbanization efficiency is one of the key dimensions of urbanization quality. Based on economic urbanization, social urbanization, and environmental urbanization, the data envelopment analysis DEA-BCC model featuring multiple inputs and outputs is applied to evaluate the urbanization efficiency of 30 major coastal port cities in China (2014–2017). The study finds that the urbanization rate of the subjects is generally low and not necessarily related to the local economic development.
