Thirteen species and cultivars of Cupressaceae were evaluated outdoors at Berkeley, CA, for resistance to the cypress tip miner, Argyresthia cupressella Walsingham. This insect causes browning of foliage as a result of larval mining in the tips of susceptible plants. Plant resistance varied from highly resistant to highly susceptible. Unsightliness caused by larval mining was significantly correlated with the number of insects present, as determined by counts of cocoons.
