Mark-release studies of Heliothis adults assume that internally dyed laboratory-reared males and unmarked feral males are equally likely to be captured in pheromone traps. A series of mark-release studies using two H. virescens strains and the Heliothis backcross hybrid indicate that there are no significant differences between laboratory, field, and backcross genotypes, or internally dyed and undyed moths in capture frequency.
