The theme of this special issue of Journal of Emerging Technologies in Accounting is Future Labs. It is meant to encourage the rapid exploration and development of research initiatives coming out of all emerging areas of the intersection of accounting and technology. Inspired by Lockheed Martin Corporation's famous Skunk Works (origin story), we wanted to encourage quick development of prototype use cases in accounting and emerging or re-emerging technologies. We received 14 submissions in the initial round of submissions, 13 of which appear in this initial volume. JETA has also decided to continue to accept Future Labs submissions and to publish them in a separate section of the journal. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, Industry 4.0, blockchain, business intelligence, Big Data and Big Data analytics, IoT, ontologies, and semantics. Papers are limited to four to five single-spaced pages of text excluding references, tables, and figures....
