Figure 1 depicts the P&L that will be the final product of this exercise. It should be staged as coming from Mr. Choyer shortly after Katie has signed a non-disclosure agreement. This should be given to students along with the data files, regardless of the amount of other guidance being provided by the instructor (please see Appendix A for supplemental materials). It allows the students to check their progress and ensure the correctness of their calculations.

To facilitate the instructor's ability to control the difficulty of the assignment, the outlines of the steps will be given first, followed by the detailed guidelines in Part 3, for both the Access and Excel portions.
