Dr. Ken Harkewicz grew up in Newark, New Jersey and earned his Veterinary Medicine Doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1981. After graduation, Ken completed a 20-month postdoctorate externship in wildlife medicine in Queensland, Australia. He had a deep knowledge of reptile and amphibian medicine and had worked as a staff veterinarian at East Bay Vivarium since 1996 as well as being an exotics veterinarian at Berkeley Dog and Cat Hospital. Ken had been a member of ARAV since 1991, making him a charter member of the organization. Ken was president of the ARAV in 2011–2012 and remained an active member of the association.
