Due to the increased globalization of business, government, technology, and education, individuals and families are choosing or are required to live in places other than their home country. Therefore, international schools are a necessity to meet the educational and developmental needs of students. Opportunities for counselors to work in international schools are increasing; however, there is limited information about the needs within these settings and the process of pursuing a position at an international school. Thus, the purpose of this article is to (a) review counseling services in international schools; (b) address the unique developmental and mental health needs of students, specifically third culture kids, in international schools and how counselors can address them; and (c) discuss logistical considerations for counselors who are interested in working at an international school.
