The staff of JOI is pleased to announce the imminent publication of a JOI Special Issue to be available this March 2011. The special issue will focus on the Future of Implant Dentistry. Each of us represents a part of the “Future for Implant Dentistry.” Implant Dentistry, as it currently exists, is wonderful for the profession; however this current state is only temporary and will come to an end as new and exciting developments occur with implant designs/surfaces, abutment/restoration connections, peri-implant bone healing/health, bone grafting techniques/materials, and the instrumentation used in our surgical/prosthetic procedures, plus multiple unknown advancements.

This is not to say that each of us, as we practice, will become antediluvian, as the time-tested basics will be with the profession forever. That being said, JOI feels a responsibility to patients, staff, and our readers to publish state-of-the-art techniques that will inevitably lead to greater predictability in function and esthetics.

The special issue will feature easy-to-access columns identifying vanguard research and clinical case reports on the following topics:

  • Immediate implant placement

  • Implant designs and implant types

  • Prosthetics

  • Lasers

Our supporters have provided considerable funding to the special issue, as they are equally excited about the potential future Implant Dentistry affords for their businesses and customers. They are instrumental to our future, and it is essential that we appreciate the contributions they make through basic science and clinical research with the subsequent marketing efforts.

The special 7th issue is designed for the Implant Dentist who wants to be the best that he/she can become. I encourage each of you to become absorbed with the forthcoming 7th issue and your future in Implant Dentistry.
