I would like to start by thanking the American Society of Parasitologists, and in particular the Award Committee composed of Valerie McKenzie, Janice Moore, Rebecca Cole, and Mike Belosevic, for selecting me to receive this prestigious award. I am deeply honored, and allow me to tell you that this is probably the most important recognition I have received in my academic career, because the nomination has nothing to do with academic deans, directors, academic committees, scientific pairs, etc. The nomination comes from the students. In the end, the recognition results from the perception of students about the influence we had on them, as their mentors. I would like to offer a special thanks to Agustín Jiménez for considering I might deserve to receive the honor that ASP has given me with this award, and I thank Agustín for having the initiative...
