William C. Marquardt III died on the morning of June 19, 2014, after a rapid bout with pancreatic cancer; he was 89 years old. Bill was an Emeritus Professor of Biology, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado, where he had served as Professor from 1966 to 1992 and continued to remain intellectually active as a trusted colleague and resource of information, especially for his younger colleagues in Biology, until his passing. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and earned his B.S. (Zoology) at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, in 1948. His M.S. (1950) and Ph.D. (1954), both in Zoology, were earned at the University of Illinois, Urbana, under the direction of Richard Roksabro Kudo.
