Members and guests of the Society, I consider it a great honor and pleasure to introduce Vasyl V. Tkach as the 2017 recipient of the Henry Baldwin Ward Medal. Recipients of the Henry Baldwin Ward Medal should have attained a position of leadership in some aspect of parasitological research by self-directed investigations in those aspects of the science that are represented by reports published in the official organ of the Society, The Journal of Parasitology. I, with supporting letters by Bruce Conn, Bill Font, John Holmes, John Janovy, Eric Pulis, and Scott Snyder, consider Vasyl to have clearly reached that leadership role in a variety of fields in a variety of ways. More importantly, subjective criteria from some prior years stipulated that the awardee should have a high potential to continue utilizing unique and cutting-edge methods to maintain that leadership role.
