It is my humble pleasure to be able to introduce the recipient of the 2018 Clark P. Read Mentor Award of the American Society of Parasitologists.
Many of the people in this Society already know a great deal about Dr. Janine Nicole Caira of the University of Connecticut. She has been a force in this Society for decades and a leader in the field of parasitology. You know about the work that she, her students, and collaborators have done on the cestodes of elasmobranchs. You know that their many discoveries of elasmobranch cestodes are making up what Martin Adamson once called one of the most colorful chapters in the story of parasitology. You know that her work caused a paradigm shift in taxonomy and systematics. You are aware of her advocacy for parasitology and for parasitologists.
